Evidence of recent strep infection e.g. Scarlet fever, +ve throat culture
+ 2 major criteria OR 1 major + 1 minor
Major criteria - 'CANES'
Carditis - tachycardia, MR/AR murmurs, pericardial rub, CCF, cardiomegaly, arrhythmias
Arthritis - migratory, flitting polyarthritis usually affecting larger joints
Nodules - Subcutaneous nodules on extensor surfaces of joints and spine
Erythema marginatum - geographical type rash with raised red edges and clear centre, occurs on trunk, thighs and arms
Sydenham's Chorea
Minor criteria (Fever now and previously, CRAP!)
Fever
Previous Rheumatic fever
Raised ESR / CRP
Arthralgia (but not if arthritis is major criteria)
Prolonged PR interval (but not if carditis is major criteria)
